RUNO

Privacy policy

On your device

Your place in each book, the books in your library, the words you know, your settings, your reading time and your answer to the usage-data question are stored in your browser. Without an account they never leave your device. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes them.

If you sign in

With an account we store your email address, the sign-in codes we send you (only in scrambled form, and only for ten minutes), your sessions (browser and IP address, so you stay signed in for up to 60 days of inactivity) and your synced reading: your place in each book, the books in your library, the words you read and looked up, your settings and your reading time per day.

We use this to keep your reading in step across your devices, which is the service you sign up for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). It is kept until you delete your account, which removes all of it at once. In the menu you can download everything stored for you or delete your account.

Usage data and error reports

Without your consent we count visits and how the reader is used (for example passages read and buttons pressed) without cookies and without storing anything on your device, so this can’t be linked to you across visits. We do this in our legitimate interest in understanding and improving RUNO (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

If you choose “Allow”, we also keep a random identifier in your browser to see how you use RUNO over time, record sessions (what happens on screen; anything you type is hidden) and, when you’re signed in, link this to your account. This is based on your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time in the menu under “Usage data”.

When something breaks we record a technical error report (what failed, on which page, in which browser). Usage data and error reports are kept for at most one year.

Feedback and reports

When you send feedback or report a passage, we store what you wrote, which passage it’s about, the page and your browser, and your account if you’re signed in. We use it to fix content and improve RUNO, and keep it until we’ve dealt with it, for at most two years.

Who processes data for us

Netlify (hosting the site; a US company covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework), Neon (our database, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany), PostHog (usage data and error reports, in its EU cloud in Frankfurt), Cloudflare (serving audio recordings), Resend (sending sign-in emails) and, only if you choose to sign in with it, Google. Each processes data only on our behalf, under a data processing agreement.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or download your data, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to mark.pokidko@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi) or the authority in your country.

Children

RUNO is not meant for children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app about important changes.
